Criminalisation in politics

Criminalisation of politics means to use politics or political power for heinous gains. By heinous gains, I mean to gain something not legal or normal. It takes place because of the nexus between the criminals and some of the politicians. Criminals don't just enter the politics and contest elections they even get elected to parliament and state legislatures. Data from last 3 general elections show that the strategy was an electoral success as candidates with criminal cases were three times more likely to win than a "clean candidate". It comes as no surprise to us as we all are aware of this fact and can see it everywhere. But it makes me feel so disgruntle that even after knowing this harsh reality we are unable to unleash politics from criminals. It is not a new disease to politics rather it has marked its present since decades. For the very first time, booth capturing was reported in 1957 which involved hired goons who would in return for their work seek protection from...

Pandemic for women

when lockdown  began a young woman in Delhi was scared of domestic violence and went to her brother's home. As the lockdown extended it was not possible for her to return back. Gradually, she became a burden on her brother because his income got squeezed. The women became a victim of his anger and got beaten up like an animal. Another woman in Hyderabad was beaten up badly by her husband who was addicted to alcohol and could not have it because of lockdown restrictions. According to a report of National commission of Women there was an almost 100% increase in domestic violence during lockdown. Gender based violence has been a hidden consequence of the pandemic. In our society patriarchy prevails and women are more vulnerable to the frustration of their spouses. The above mentioned stats regarding cases of domestic violence exhibits only those cases which were reported but woefully there are  number of cases which do not even get registered. Unexpectedly, it is observed that in...

What is social harmony to you??

" Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony"                                           -Mahatma Gandhi what if you are rich, healthy and successful but you lack harmony in your life? Will you have a contented life? Well if you ask me , my answer will be a BIG NO. How can we live in a society which lacks harmony?? Now talking about social harmony, it can be in various forms and dimensions. Social harmony means to share, value and express love, fraternity, peace, respect, admiration and equity to other people regardless of their origin, religion, sex, race, physique, career, choices or financial status. Discussing about Indian society, the very first idea that strikes my mind is differences due to religion .In secular country like India it is our fo...

Is feminism a battle against men??

Hey guys my name is Ritika and I am a feminist........On reading the word feminist many of you won't read my post further but why??? Why do some people go ballistic on hearing the word feminism. So today I'll discuss about feminism and misapprehensions regarding it. Commencing with the definition of the feminism, do we know the actual meaning of  it?........Feminism is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes . But before advocating feminism I would like to elucidate some common reasons, based on which people do not support it. Feminism is misinterpreted as a hatred against men. There are million of people who still find women inferior to men and don't find it justified to provide women with equal opportunities and rights. There are many who believe in equal rights but find feminism as a bluff concept . Thousands of people presume that we have accomplished gender equality. Based on above arguments I will like to clear some of the misconceptions...

Media Should Publish News rather than manufacturing it

"The sole  aim of Journalism should be service" What is media??It is basically a means of communication to deliver information. But is our media serving as an irreproachable outlet of news? Most of us are aware of media bias but we don't find it serious and consequential. So today I'll talk about media bias and its threat to democracy. In today's social structure media plays a vital role to form image about any political and social issue.Mass media has crucial influence on public when it narrates and provides reliable information about issues like environment, politics, homosexuality and religion. A large portion of our society considers media as a potent source of information and depends on it to form an opinion. consequently it becomes vitally important for media to provide scrutinised, fair , ethical and honest news to its audience. But it is our misfortune that media in today's scenerio has failed to serve as an honest outlet of information rather it has m...
